Two Italian artists, Pietro Tenerani and Adamo Tadolini, were the founders of the sculptural iconography of Bolívar that began immediately after the death of the hero. They sculpted in marble, modeling the first pedestrian statues and busts (Popayan, Bogota, Caracas); as well as the first equestrian monument in bronze (original in Lima, replica in Caracas), destined to be the archetype in all America. Dos artistas italianos, Pietro Tenerani y Adamo Tadolini, fueron los fundadores de la iconografía escultórica de Bolívar, que se inició inmediatamente después de ocurrir la muerte del héroe. Aquél esculpió en mármol y modeló las primeras estatuas pedestres y bustos (Popayán, Bogotá, Caracas); y éste, el primer monumento ecuestre en bronce (original en Lima; réplica en Caracas), llamados a convertirse en arquetipos en toda la América.
