Venezuelan Butterflies is the first study made on lepidoptera in the country. Until his early death, Theophile Raymond spent a lifetime collecting beautiful specimens, drawing them, and writing a book on the subject in a beautiful hand. Mariposa de Venezuela es el primer estudio sobre lepidopteros en Venezuela. Hasta su prematura muerte Theophile Raymond dedicó toda su vida recolectando especímenes de mariposas, dibujandolas y escribiendo un manuscrito en forma de libro en una bella caligrafía. El libro-manuscripto se descubrió solamente recientemente en los archivos de la Sociedad Venezolana de Ciencias Naturales y fué gracia a su director Dr. Ramón Aveledo Ostos que se pudo reproducir exactamente en su forma orginal. Las mariposas son dibujadas y pintadas con una absoluta fidelidad de color, y tiene la particularidad de estar en escala natural es decir que corresponde escactamente al tamaño de la mariposa viva, lo cual comprueba la habilidad y la busqueda de precisión de Theophile Raymond. Hay que observar sin embargo que alguno de los procesos descritos por el autor son ya superados por la técnica y la ciencia moderna como se aclara en el prologo.
