Venezuelan Haciendas

Haciendas Venezolanas

Author / Autor: G. Gasparini/Ermila Troconis de Veracoechea

This second volume on Venezuelan architectural typology by Graziano Gasparini complements his previous book on Venezuelan houses (published in 1978). Co-author historian Ermila Troconis de Veracoechea presents a thorough treatment of the rural architecture that resulted from a period when the Venezuelan economy was based on agriculture. The success of three crops, sugar cane, cacao and coffee led to the building of residential houses, and outbuildings and service areas that these crops required. The simplicity and dignity of the structures are amply revealed in the extensive color illustrations.
