The first edition of this book appeared in 1959, constituting a real event in Venezuelan architectural history. In effect, this was the first book entirely dedicated to the theme of colonial architecture. At the same time, it was the first book that revealed the existence of a great number of colonial churches, many of them had been ignored and, for that reason, not been open to study.
This second edition, updated and amplified, includes churches missing from the first edition; furthermore, the restoration of some is illustrated.

La primera edición de este libro apareció en 1959 y constituyó todo un evento para la historia de la arquitectura venezolana. En efecto, fue el primer libro totalmente dedicado a un tema de arquitectura colonial. Al mismo tiempo, fue el primer libro que reveló la existencia de una gran cantidad de iglesias coloniales, muchas de ellas ignoradas y jamás estudiadas.
Esta segunda edición añade algunos templos que faltaron en la primera y, además, ilustra la intervención restauradora en algunos de ellos.
