To settlers sailing west to the New World, the Canary Islands offered the last remnants of the Old World that would be transferred to America. Bearing this in mind, the influence of the Canary Islands upon the architecture in the new lands is fully unveiled in this study. Marco Dorta, historian of Hispano-American art and born in the Canary Islands, was the first to make public the architectural influence of the Canary Islands in Venezuela, Colombia and the Caribbean. This volume illustrates the fundamental importance of Canary Island architecure upon the newly discovered lands, and stresses the significance of the phenomenon of transmission of architectural culture from Europe to America.
